What You Should Know As a First Time Cruiser

Most times, first-time cruisers do not know where to start from and probably have numerous questions to ask. On this piece, we will discuss the most crucial topic on cruising. Some interesting fact might be relevant to people who are familiar with cruising.

Choosing your cabin:

Picking the right cabin is one of the most critical decisions to make when it comes to your cruise. Those who have never cruised before need some guidance when making decisions. Below are the three types of cabin and some of the pros and cons.

Balcony Cabin

The balcony cabin is the most expensive and comes with lots of luxury. A balcony cabin will be a bit larger than the inside cabin. Besides the room, you will have doors that lead out onto your private balcony overlooking the sea. You will get two tables and chairs out on the balcony. These rooms supply you the fresh air and the pleasant sound of the sea. It is nice to be able to go out on to the balcony or even order room service for breakfast on the terrace.

Inside Cabin

Accommodation in the interior of a ship is known as the inside cabin. The cabin has no window, hence, no natural light. They will have a separate en-suite as standard. These can be modest rooms depending on the ship but are the most affordable. Majority of people only use their cabin to get changed and sleep, so these will befit many people.

Outside Cabin

An outside cabin will have the same layout as an inside cabin, but you will get either a porthole or a popicture window with a view of the ocean that will give you natural light.

Dining Options for You

Whenever a person books a cruise, the individual is asked to chose his/her best dining option. That can be a difficult decision to make, most especially for a first timer. Nowadays, most ships offer freedom dining and a traditional set time dining.

First Dining

First dining is traditional dining on the cruise. Traditional dining time usually is between 6 pm and 6.30pm. That can vary on a cruise line, as some of the European cruise lines do not start their first sitting until 7 pm to 7.30pm. If you opt for this sitting for your cruise, you will eat in the main dining room at the same time each evening on the same table. In addition, you are to choose the table size you would prefer.

Second Dining

Second dining is another traditional dining on the cruise. Second sitting usually is between 8 pm and 8.30pm. That can differ on a cruise ship, as some second sittings will be 9 pm to 9.30pm. Just like the first dining, you will eat in the main dining room at the same time each evening on the same table. The same applies to pick the table size and having the same waiter.

Freedom Dining

Freedom dining has been included to give passengers more flexibility. With this type of dining, you can eat at your most preferred time in the restaurant within the opening hours, which usually are between 6 pm to 9.30pm. You can eat at a different time every evening if you wish and you can sit at a separate table each evening if you want to.

Freedom dining has many names, which include Freedom, Mytime, Select, Open, anytime, Choice and Freestyle depending on the cruise line, but they all have the same meaning.

Dietary Requests

You do not have to bother yourself with the dietary request on a cruise ship. The cruise line makes sure that all kinds of diet are available for their passengers. However, if you have a request for kosher food, then this will need to be said at the time of booking to the cruise line, this will enable them to arrange it for you.
